News & facts

News & facts puts the latest headlines, a fact of the day and an "on this day" event on your office TV. There is nothing to connect: no account and no key. You switch it on and pick a news source on Integrations.

1. What News & facts adds

  • Headlines from one news source you choose, with the name of the source on the TV.
  • A fact of the day and an event that happened on this day in history, both from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA).

Headlines refresh about every 15 minutes. Facts come from a new set every day and change every half hour, so every TV of your account shows the same one at the same moment.

2. Adding it on Integrations

  1. Open Integrations and press Add integration.
  2. Choose News & facts. You find it under News & content, or by searching for it.
  3. Press Add. The News & facts card now appears on the page.

News & facts counts as added only while it is switched on. If you switch it off and leave the page, the card disappears; add it again from the store to switch it back on.

3. Its settings

On the News & facts card:

  1. Show news and facts on your screens: the switch that turns the integration on or off.
  2. Source: the news source for the headlines. You choose from a fixed list: BBC News · English, tagesschau · Deutsch, NOS · Nederlands and franceinfo · Français. Until you save, the source in your language is selected.
  3. Press Save. The card shows Setting saved. and its badge says On or Off.

Switching it off keeps the source you chose, so switching on again brings it back. Facts come from the Wikipedia in the language of the source. NOS uses facts from the English Wikipedia, because the Dutch Wikipedia has no such feed.

Only the account holder, and members who are allowed to edit integrations, can change the setting. Other members see it greyed out, without Save.

4. Widgets it enables

News & facts unlocks five widgets for your slides. Three show headlines: News headlines, Top headline and News carousel. The other two are Fact of the day and On this day. The store entry lists them under Widgets it adds.

You add them in the widget store of the slide editor, under News & facts, like any other widget. Which tile sizes they fit is explained in Widgets and tile sizes.

While News & facts is switched off, the widget store shows "Connect News & facts to add 5 widgets" instead of them. A tile that is already on a slide then shows "Switch on News & facts on the integrations page" on the TV. If the news source can't be reached, the tile says "News unavailable right now" until it can.
