Widgets and tile sizes

A widget is one block of information on a TV slide, such as the clock, the weather, birthdays or today's news. Each slide has a layout, each spot in that layout holds one widget, and you choose the widgets in the widget store of the slide editor.

1. What a widget is

A widget shows one thing and keeps it up to date on its own. You do not edit the content of a widget on the slide. It reads it from OfficeDash or from an integration you connected. A spot holds exactly one widget, so a slide with three columns shows three widgets next to each other.

What a widget shows can often be tuned with Settings, for example a title or a city. That is covered in Dashboards and the slide editor.

2. The widget catalog

The widget store groups widgets under these headings:

  • Time and weather, for example Clock and date and Weather.
  • People, for example Birthdays and Out of office.
  • Company, for example News headlines.
  • Ambient, for pictures and atmosphere on the screen.

Widgets that need an integration have their own section per integration, for example Projects from Simplicate or Deals won from Teamleader. The list grows as OfficeDash gets new integrations and widgets, so open the store to see what is available to you today.

3. Tile sizes and why a widget fits only some spots

Every spot in a layout is a tile with a size. The sizes are Full slide, Half-width column, Third-width column, Quarter, Wide tile, Tall tile, Small square, Narrow tile, Small tile and Slim tile. The layout of the slide decides which tile a spot has.

A widget is built to be readable from a few metres away on a TV, so each widget supports only the sizes where it looks good. A list of birthdays needs room for names, and a clock can do with less. In the store you only see widgets that fit the tile of the spot you opened. A line under the list says how many widgets need a bigger tile. If a widget is marked Doesn't fit this tile, choose another layout for the slide or pick another widget.

4. Add or change a widget

  1. Open Dashboards, open your dashboard and press Edit.
  2. Select the slide you want to change.
  3. Press Add widget on an empty spot. To replace a widget, press Change widget on the spot.
  4. In the window Add a widget (or Change widget), pick the widget you want. The window opens with the tile size of the spot and lists only what fits.

The widget appears in the spot right away. Press Change widget again whenever you want another one.

5. Widgets that need an integration

Some widgets read data from another tool, for example your HR system, your project tool or your calendar. Until you connect that tool, its section in the store is a single card with a link to connect it, and the widgets show “Needs” followed by the name of the integration.

  1. Press the connect link in the store, or open Integrations.
  2. Connect the integration. The steps differ per integration.
  3. Go back to the slide editor and open the store again. The widgets of that integration are now listed with the others.
