Screens
A screen is a TV that is paired with your account. Each one shows one of your dashboards. How to pair a TV for the first time is explained in Pair a TV. This article is about the TVs you already paired.
1. The list of paired screens
There is no separate page for screens: you find each TV with the dashboard it shows.
- Open Dashboards.
- On a dashboard's card, press Screen links · {count}. The number is how many TVs show that dashboard.
- The window Screen links: {name} lists those TVs with their name and the date they were paired. If no TV shows the dashboard yet, the window says so. Press Add a TV to pair one.
If you delete a dashboard, the TVs that showed it are listed under Screen links without a dashboard on the same page. Until you give them a dashboard, they show "No dashboard selected".
Members who are not allowed to change screens only see each TV's name and date. Ask the account holder if you need to move or unlink a TV.
2. Choosing which dashboard a screen shows
You choose the dashboard when you pair the TV, in the Dashboard field on Pair a TV. To change it later:
- Open Dashboards and press Screen links · {count} on the dashboard the TV shows now.
- Next to the TV, pick the other dashboard in Move to. Only your other dashboards are offered.
- Press Move. The TV switches to the new dashboard within one refresh.
For a TV under Screen links without a dashboard, pick a dashboard in Assign to and press Assign to dashboard.
3. Renaming and unlinking a screen
A TV gets its name when you pair it, in the TV name field. OfficeDash has no way to rename a paired TV. To give it another name, unlink it as described below and pair it again with the new name.
To unlink a TV:
- Open the Screen links: {name} window of the dashboard the TV shows.
- Press Revoke next to the TV.
- OfficeDash asks you to confirm. Press Yes, revoke, or Cancel to keep the TV.
The TV stops showing your account's data and goes back to the pairing screen at its next refresh. Revoke every TV you no longer use, and straight away when a TV is lost or stolen.
A TV can also leave by itself: move the mouse on the TV, press "Leave this screen" in the corner and confirm with "Disconnect". It then shows the pairing screen again.
4. Installing the TV app
The TV screen can be installed as an app, so it opens full screen without a browser bar.
- On the TV, a stick PC or a kiosk machine, open a TV page such as
/tvin Chrome or Edge. - Choose "Install" in the address bar, or install the page as an app from the browser menu.
- The app opens full screen at
/tv.
Good to know:
- Installing needs a secure
https://address. On a plainhttp://address in your local network the browser offers no install; the TV then works as a normal browser tab. - Pairing works as in the browser. A browser that was already paired opens as that screen; a fresh install shows the pairing screen, and you pair it as described in Pair a TV.
- On Android TV or Fire TV, use a kiosk browser that can install web apps, or open
/tvin it full screen.
5. What the TV shows when it is offline
When the network drops, the TV keeps showing and rotating its last dashboard. A small note "Offline, showing the last update" appears in the bottom-left corner, in the TV's language.
- A TV that has nothing kept yet shows a calm offline page and tries again by itself every 30 seconds.
- When the network is back, fresh data comes back by itself and the note goes away. You don't need to reload the page.
- A TV you revoked while it was offline goes to the pairing screen once it is online again.
