Calendars

Calendars shows upcoming events on your office TV: from the calendar of a meeting room, your company events or the holidays. You add a calendar by pasting its iCal address on Integrations, and you can add as many as you like.

1. Finding a calendar's iCal link

Every calendar you add needs its iCal address, a link to that calendar. You find it in the calendar app itself.

  • In Google Calendar, open Settings → the calendar → Secret address in iCal format and copy the address.
  • In Outlook, open Settings → Calendar → Shared calendars → Publish a calendar → ICS link, publish the calendar and copy the ICS link.

The address starts with https:// or webcal://. A secret address works like a password: anyone who has it can read the calendar. That is why OfficeDash stores it encrypted and only ever shows its host, such as calendar.google.com.

Do you use Google Calendar or Microsoft 365 for work? Then the Calendars card may also offer Connect Google Calendar or Connect Microsoft 365, which let you pick a calendar from your account instead of pasting an address.

2. Adding and removing calendars

  1. Open Integrations, press Add integration, choose Calendars and press Add. Calendars now has its own card on the page. Once a calendar is added, the card stays there.
  2. Under Add a calendar, fill in a Name that says what the calendar is, such as "Meeting room 1", and paste the iCal address.
  3. Press Add calendar. OfficeDash fetches the address once to check it, which can take a few seconds; meanwhile the button says "Checking the calendar…". When it is done, you see "Calendar added."
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for every calendar you want on your screens: meeting rooms, company events, holidays.

Each calendar is listed under Your calendars, with its name, its host and the date it was added.

  • To change a name, press Rename next to the calendar, type the new name and press Save.
  • To remove a calendar, press Remove next to it and then Remove calendar to confirm. Widgets that showed that calendar then say the calendar was not found, so pick another calendar in them.

The account holder sees all of these buttons. Other members see the form to add a calendar only when they are allowed to add integrations, Rename only when they are allowed to edit integrations, and Remove only when they are allowed to remove integrations. Members without these see only the list.

3. The Upcoming events widget

Calendars unlocks the Upcoming events widget for your slides. Until you have added a calendar, the widget store in the slide editor shows "Connect Calendars to add 1 widget" instead of the widget.

The widget has three settings:

  • Calendar: which of your calendars it shows. Until you pick one, the widget says "Choose a calendar".
  • How many to show: up to 10 events.
  • Show: Next 7 days or Today only.

To show several calendars, add one widget per calendar. Screens show the titles and times of events only; private events show as "Busy". Which tile sizes the widget fits is explained in Widgets and tile sizes.
